Is winter getting you down? Did you struggle through January’s snow and freezing weather only to emerge into a distinctly chilly February?

If the answer is yes and you think it’s too late to grab some last-minute winter sun, fear not – we have a rundown of the places where it’s reliably hot and sunny before spring hits and northern Europe gradually warms up. What’s more, these places still offer some excellent prices if you act quickly.

The UK might be shivering in the usual cycle of rain, wind and snow that seems to constitute our weather nowadays, but elsewhere around the globe the sun still shines and the mercury rarely dips below the 20s. You can either sit at home and wait for a summer that will last all of three days – two of which you will be stuck indoors at work – or you can get out there, pull your boots up and go and find the sun yourself.

Whether it’s soaking up the rays on a beach in Spain or sipping rum cocktails in Cuba, a dose of the hot stuff after the long, cold winter is just what the doctor ordered. What’s more, you can spend your whole holiday in luxury on an all-inclusive holiday – just check our late deals calendar and use the ‘board basis’ filter at the top of the page to find the cheapest possible all-inclusive packages over the next two months. Here’s some inspiration – our pick of the 10 best places to catch that elusive warm sunshine.

Prices are for a week’s all-inclusive stay and were accurate at the time of writing but can change at any time, search using the link above to find the latest offers.

Lanzarote

Prices departing in March from £351pp

The Canary Islands are your go-to destination for guaranteed sun at any time of the year. Lanzarote is one of the most popular of the islands, with miles of golden sandy beaches, excellent weather conditions for watersports, and resorts to suit everyone from families to young groups looking for night life. If you can tear yourself away from the beautiful coastline, you’ll find an unexpectedly exciting interior to explore – an otherworldly, lunar landscape of volcanoes and geysers, ideal for hiking. Spring is the best time for this sort of activity, so booking for March is a great option.

Tunisia

Prices departing in March from £234pp

Winter is the ideal time to visit North Africa, because you will barely be able to make it out of your air conditioned hotel in the summer. Book an all-inclusive holiday to Tunisia in the next month and you’ll benefit from pleasantly warm average temperatures of around 18-20C – perfect for exploring some of the fantastic sights this country has to offer.

There’s the chaotic souks of Tunis to wander around with their spice perfumed air, ancient Roman ruins in Monastir, unexpectedly lush forests and lakes of pink flamingos in the north and of course a balmy, palm-fringed coastline, scented with jasmine and sea breezes. And that’s without mentioning thrilling excursions into the one of the world’s greatest wildernesses, the Sahara.

The Gambia

Prices departing in March from £617pp

If it’s guaranteed sunshine you’re after, you could do little better than to book a break to The Gambia – the average temperature here does not drop below 25C all year round. Holidays in The Gambia are almost entirely all—inclusive, so the country is synonymous with the sort of easy, luxurious break you would find in the Caribbean.

Stunning tropical beaches fringed by swaying palms and lapped by clear, clean water is just the start. There are some of Africa’s best nature reserves found here -ideal for a few days safari – where you can see baboons, colobus monkeys, warthogs, marsh mongooses and bushbucks, hyenas, dolphins and crocodiles among other animals. And the country has a fascinating, poignant history as a former slave colony, with some must-see sites to visit including the haunting historical slaving stations of St James Island and Jufureh.

Algarve

Prices departing in March from £281pp

With one of the most spectacular coastlines in the Mediterranean, it’s not hard to see why the Algarve is Portugal’s premier holiday destination. Spectacular cliffs fall into emerald green water, wide, sandy bays sweep one after another for miles, and small, secluded coves are waiting to be discovered.

There are a number of resorts to choose from, whether you’re after the buzzing nightlife of Albufeira or the peaceful nonchalance of riverside Tavira. Temperatures in March reach up to a pleasant 20C – ideal for a round of golf on one of the pristine courses for which the area is famous. All in all a great destination for some last minute winter sun – and with some unbelievably cheap all-inclusive deals to be had.

Egypt

Prices departing in April from £424pp

Awe-inspiring  pyramids, spectacular shifting desert vistas, the lazy, meandering might of the Nile - Egypt is one of the most iconic country’s on earth. What’s more, it enjoys levels of sunshine year round that would make the Caribbean blush. In April you can average temperatures of between 25-30C a day, and 12 hours of sunshine-there is literally no better place to go for guaranteed good weather.

You can nab some excellent all-inclusive deals around this time, and it’s the perfect time of year for scuba diving in the Red Sea – rated as one of the best diving areas in the world. If diving is not your thing there’s the breathtaking ancient Egyptian temples to explore, trips into the Sahara on camel-back or by jeep, alfresco dinners  looking out over the Nile on old, colonial hotel verandas, or simply soaking up some rays on the beautiful beaches of Sharm el Sheikh.

Turkey

Prices departing in April from £324pp

There are some fantastic places to visit in Turkey, from the bustling metropolis of Istanbul to the rich, ancient heritage of Bodrum, but for sheer beauty, the Turquoise Coast of the Antalya Region in the southwest is hard to beat. Here you’ll find breathtaking beaches lapped by the cleanest, clearest water you’ve ever seen along a coastline dotted with tiny fishing villages and littered with ancient ruins peeking out from the undergrowth.

The Lycian Way is rated as one of the top 5 walks in the world, and the best time to see it is in spring, when the weather is pleasantly warm rather than unmanageably hot. Booking a holiday here in April is perfect. What’s more, Turkey is regarded as one of the best places in Europe for an all-inclusive holiday, offering fantastic service and excellent cuisine.

Cuba

Prices departing in March from £796pp

There has been much made recently of the fact that Cuba may well undergo a huge transformation in the next few years, should Fidel Castro kick the bucket. It’s thought that the country is likely to open up trade with the West, which may mean an end to many of the things that make the country unique – the rattling old 1950s American cars will be replaced with an influx of sleek modern ones, the faded old colonial buildings will be knocked down to make way for new developments, and the poor but vibrant beating heart of the country may well be lost.

Make sure you see Cuba for all the things it is famous for today by booking a break there before it’s too late. Holidays here are generally all-inclusive and the hotels 4-star or above, and the weather is that of a typical Caribbean  island, so you can expect days spent on spectacular, white sand beaches lapped by warm tropical waters.

Morocco

Prices departing in March from £294pp

One of the ‘big three’ north African destinations popular with Europeans, the others being Egypt and Tunisia, Morocco shares its neighbours’ fantastic weather and rich Arabic culture while maintaining a fascinating personality all of its own.

There’s the ubiquitous Sahara desert to see by jeep or camel, the soaring Atlas Mountains to explore, the fascinating indigenous culture of the nomadic Berbers to discover, spectacular beaches in Agadir, the ancient swaying charm of seaside Essaouria, bustling souks in Fez and Casablanca and of course the vibrant melting pot of Marrakech, with its faded French colonial grandeur and fast-paced modern Arabic pulse. The weather here reaches highs of between 17-23C in March and sees 12 hours of sunshine – just right for exploring the historical sites or lazing about on the beach.

Malta

Prices departing in March from £210pp

The best way to describe Malta is as the mouse that roared. She may well be tiny, but she certainly packs a punch. There are the miles of pristine sandy beaches.  A stunningly beautiful capital city in Valetta – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – which has piazzas to rival Paris or Rome in their beauty. Some of the world’s oldest standing Neolithic temples for those after history and culture. Cuisine that is a delicious mix of North African and Sicilian. And a surprisingly vibrant nightlife scene which is regarded as a match for that found in Ibiza. Visit during March and you’ll get some excellent prices on all-inclusive holidays, as well as comfortable temperatures of around 17-19C with plenty of sunshine.

Spain

Prices departing in March from £220pp

The perennial favourite for us Brits, Spain is the archetypal sun holiday destination. You can pick up some eye-poppingly cheap package deals here, and the country remains one of the best in Europe for low cost all-inclusive deals. Temperatures in March and April hover around 18-22C depending on the region you’re staying in.

Once there, you’ll find a huge selection of different resorts to choose from, from bustling Benidorm to stylish Marbella. There are hundreds of miles worth of golden sandy beaches to discover, frenetic nightlife, bags of culture and history, delicious food, spectacular countryside and an ever-present laid back attitude that is the stuff relaxing holidays are made of.
